IRON ORE

The year in brief

Sesa Goa is one of the largest private sector exporters of iron ore in India. Our total iron ore saleable production through IOK and IOG Mines is 6.5 million DMT, 5% up Y-o-Y. Pig iron production is at one of the highest levels with 895 kt production in FY 2025-26. Further, VAB commissioned GCP Silos for BF3 Debottlenecking (Blower upgradation, GCP & CA) project in Apr’25. Additionally, new ESP for sinter plant, PCI Mill and coke drying system were also commissioned, which has resulted into overall operational efficiency improvement.

ESG Update

Occupational health and safety

We are committed to Zero Harm with the goal of zero fatal accidents in our Iron Ore Business. In line with this Zero harm target, our focus areas remain to improve CRM verifications, work permit systems, and Contractor HSE Management. Our Lost Time Injury Frequency Rate (LTIFR) is 0.46 in FY 2025-26 compared to 0.89 in FY 2024-25. Our Current Infra-matrices compliance is 90% and our aim for 100% compliance on this over the next three years, by priority-based implementation. We have also improved our CRM inspections by 161% ensuring that we identify and mitigate life-altering risks before they manifest.

To enhance health and safety, we’ve implemented digital and engineering controls like man-less weighbridge automation, access control, and fleet management system. We prioritise eliminating hazards through engineering controls.

Monthly safety awareness programmes involve over 1,200 employees, emphasising Vedanta Safety Standards and incident learnings. We’ve rolled out a Safety improvement plan and monthly ESG review for better communication and compliance.

Environment

Sesa Goa, Iron ore business has always been a leader in adopting best-in-class environment technologies in aspects like mine reclamation, waste dump stabilisation, water treatment, dust suppression etc. All the sites have a well-defined environment management plan to implement various environment protective measures, so as to ensure that all the environmental parameters are within limit. During FY 2025-26, more than 78,000 saplings were planted within and outside our operational areas.

Sesa Goa, has committed to achieving net zero carbon by 2050, and continues to take various initiatives to reduce the carbon intensity across operations for instance, electrification of our mining fleet, the number of EV wheel loaders has now reached 11 (5 at VAB, 4 at IOG, & 2 at IOK) and have deployed 4 EV LMVs.

Value-Added Business has also introduced a coke drying system that utilises waste sinter hot flue gases to lower the moisture content in coke, thereby reducing overall fuel consumption. Furthermore, we have installed a solar power system to meet the auxiliary energy needs of the barge Mogri, with plans to extend this solution to more barges in the next financial year.
