CASE STUDY

Accelerating Development at Ambe Block through Conductor Supported Platform

We are advancing offshore blocks across India’s East and West coasts to accelerate production from domestic offshore reserves. At the Ambe block, we adopted lightweight Conductor Supported Platform technology, supported by early engineering and financial commitment, integrated cross- functional execution, phased development planning, and readiness of pipelines and surface facilities.

Problem statement

The Ambe offshore asset is a marginal field that requires a capital-efficient development approach to ensure commercial viability. Conventional offshore solutions involve higher capex, longer timelines and larger offshore scope, creating the need for an innovative, fit-for-purpose strategy that can optimise project economics and accelerate installation.

Our approach
  • Adopted a fit-for-purpose offshore development approach built around the principle of ‘design one, build many’
  • Evaluated multiple development concepts before selecting the Conductor Supported Platform as the optimal solution for the Ambe marginal field
  • Established a strategic partnership with 2H Offshore for end-to-end platform delivery, covering design, engineering, fabrication and installation
  • Used CSP technology, where well conductors act as structural support for the topsides, removing the need for conventional heavy jackets
  • Retained dry-tree well capability while simplifying offshore infrastructure
  • Reduced structural complexity, installation duration and offshore construction scope to enable faster, more efficient execution
  • Retained the exploratory well as a keeper well, improving project economics and supporting faster monetisation
  • Enabled around 30% reduction in platform capex, accelerated first production timelines and improved project IRR
Milestones
  • Installed India’s first subsea template in December 2025, establishing the foundation for CSP platform deployment and accelerated offshore development
  • Notified a hydrocarbon discovery in January 2026 in the Western Offshore DSF block
  • Marked a key step towards accelerated field development and early production
  • Advanced the field development plan with production targeted by FY 2026-27
  • Created an execution-ready development model that avoids conventional long-cycle offshore execution
  • Enabled a faster first oil pathway through a cost-efficient and fit-for-purpose offshore solution
Way forward

We plan to replicate CSP-led development across suitable marginal offshore assets. This approach will strengthen capital efficiency, accelerate resource monetisation and reinforce sustainable value creation across our offshore portfolio.
