Contributing towards long-term development

April 11, 2017 marked the beginning of a merger between Vedanta Limited and Cairn India.

With a vision to unlock India’s latent energy and mineral resource potential, Cairn Oil & Gas is the largest private sector producer of crude oil in India. In a market where over 85% of oil and 54% of gas demands are met with imported resources, Cairn Oil & Gas, Vedanta Ltd., plays an active role in reducing our country’s import burden by producing oil and gas locally.

Liaising with our Honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision to make India self-dependent with respect to its energy needs, Cairn Oil & Gas, Vedanta Ltd., contributes over 25% of India’s annual production of oil and gas. We have made over 50 hydrocarbon discoveries with our portfolio of 58 blocks across India. Our Mangala field in Rajasthan is the largest onshore oil discovery in India in over a decade. Over the years, Cairn Oil & Gas, Vedanta Ltd., has developed technologies and systems such as 3D seismic technology, hydraulic fracturing method, enhanced oil recovery (EOR) technique, artificial lift, skin effect heat management system, and alkaline surface polymer flooding system. These innovations help us to find, commercialise and recover resources from new and old fields effectively.

Driving growth sustainably

India is the third-largest consumer of oil in the world. The oil and gas industry is one of the core contributors to India's economic growth. The demand for oil and gas is expected to increase with a CAGR of 2.4% by 2030. Cairn Oil & Gas, Vedanta Ltd., aims to meet this rising demand and contribute to the vision of a self-reliant India. We have hooked up 74 new wells in FY'2021 to help the Government of India reach the milestone of reducing oil imports by 10%

While we are trying to make India one of the top exporters of oil across the world, Cairn Oil & Gas, Vedanta Ltd., also has the vision to improve the quality of life of the communities we operate in. We have partnered with several reputed NGOs to deliver a real sustainable impact at the grassroots. With areas focusing on diverse aspects of society such as children’s well-being and education, women empowerment, healthcare, drinking water and sanitation, and many more, Vedanta aims to bring about holistic socio-economic development in the areas we operate in.
