About the Founder
Chairman, Mr. Anil Agarwal

Anil Agarwal is the Founder and Chairman of Vedanta, one of the largest and diversified natural resources groups globally. Born in the state of Bihar in India, Anil Agarwal did not let his humble beginnings limit his achievements. At the age of 19, he left his small town for Mumbai, India's commercial capital, with only a tiffin box, bedding, and dreams in his eyes. He wished to start his own company but could barely make ends meet. For the next 10 years, he tried his luck with nine different businesses but all of them failed. However, he did not give up. He founded the Vedanta Group in 1976 and has over 45 years of entrepreneurial & business experience.

A committed philanthropist, he believes that businesses must give back to society and help them prosper. He has pledged 75% of his wealth for social impact. He has signed The Giving Pledge, a movement of global philanthropists who have committed to give away the majority of their wealth to causes related to social impact. Anil Agarwal is committed to promoting the well-being of the communities with a particular focus on women and child development. His dream project, Nand Ghar, is developing model anganwadis across India that are focused on eradicating child malnutrition, providing education, healthcare, and empowering women with skill development.

Our Work
Infrastructure
The Nand Ghars are modernized Anganwadis built with cutting-edge technology. Designed to be child friendly, they offer round-the-clock electricity powered by solar & grid connection, access to clean drinking water through water purifiers. Additionally, they are equipped with LED televisions, tablets, smart kits, adding dimension (AD) boards, attractive furniture and swings for children.
Services
The Nand Ghar project is designed to elevate and enrich the Anganwadi experience for children, women, and the entire community. With nutrition initiatives, education facilitated by televisions and tabs, health interventions through telemedicine and MHV and women empowerment activities, Nand Ghars have become an indispensable resource for the local communities.

Nand Ghar Verticals:

Nutrition
Malnutrition in India persists with 35% of children under 5 being stunted, 17% wasted, and 33% underweight, while nearly 50% of women of reproductive age suffer from anaemia. Nand Ghar aims to address these through varied initiatives. It initiated a project aimed at providing close to 72 lac multi-millet Nutri bars to Nand Ghar children daily aged 3 to 6 years. It also initiated distribution of 1 Lakh millet shake units to Nand Ghar Children. These bars have played a pivotal role in eradicating malnutrition and boosting attendance at Nand Ghars. Additionally, Nand Ghar is also supporting the government in facilitating hot-cooked meals and fortified dry ration to beneficiaries to ensure 100% access to good nutrition.
Education
In India, approximately 87% of children aged 3-6 are enrolled in pre-primary education, but only 63% of anganwadis meet infrastructure standards, and less than 50% of early childhood educators are formally trained. Nand Ghar's aim is to enhance pre-primary education through interactive learning methods. Utilizing Building as Learning Aid (BaLA) designs and pre-loaded content on TV and smart kits, ECCE kits as well as tablets. The Nand Ghar didis are provided capacity-building sessions through experts and are trained in enhanced education programs to deliver to the best of their ability and make children 100% school ready.
Healthcare
In India, rural areas have approximately 0.8 doctors per 1,000 people, over 50% of Primary Health Centers are understaffed, and maternal and infant mortality rates are higher compared to urban areas. Nand Ghar ensures that all children receive the required healthcare through regular vaccination programs and also extends health services right at the doorstep through Mobile Health Vans and Telemedicine. By conducting regular health camps and offering access to digital healthcare, communities gain access to specialized care from the best doctors available across the country.
Women empowerment
In India, approximately 25% of rural women are employed in non-agricultural sectors, 67% of rural women are enrolled in self-help groups, and only 48% of rural women have access to microfinance, while issues like lower literacy rates and limited decision-making power persist. The Nand Ghars are utilised effectively in the second half to engage women beneficiaries, facilitating skill training and scheme linkage activities, while also providing access to income generating avenues such as job work, placements, market linkage, etc. With an aim to generate livelihood and ensure financial independence for women, Nand Ghar is providing ample women empowerment opportunities.
